The people’s healthcare provider
Ever wonder what goes on in medical offices? behind closed doors? A sacred space where people journey. Hopeful to find answers, a cure, relief, connection.
I have spent much of the last ten years inside these spaces. Showing up each morning, armed with a smile and a stethescope, patching together broken hearts, offerring encouragement in moments of darkness, providing medicines to ease pain, and celebrating successes with warriors, mothers, daughters, maybe even you. All of this magic, medicine, art, drama, playing out quietly in small rooms, behind closed doors. paper gowns, and blood pressure cuffs, trying to quantify the human spirit and it’s vitality.
If you have been one of my patients, thank you for allowing me to serve you.
I am proud and priveledged to serve a rural community. Providing healthcare to people just like you and me, with ordinary and extraordinary stories and challenges.
Unfortunately, I go home too many nights feeling that I wasn’t able to provide the care and support my patient’s deserve and need. Our healthcare system isn’t really designed to heal. Some days I feel like I am just patching up the walking wounded. Encouraging them to keep showing up to unfulfilling jobs, overextended schedules.
Health care providers have the best intentions. I entered the career bright eyed, ready to change the lives of my patients, until I realized we get 15 minutes per patient, regardless of their malady. That’s it.
So I’ve decided to step away from my practice a couple of days a week and spend a little time each week, working on projects that fill me back up. Focusing on ways to provide medical advice in a very 2022 way…. with a blog? I don’t know anything about blogging, but It’s a way to augment what I am doing in clinic, provide a platform to reach more people, and create tools for transformation. Please contact me if you are wanting info on medical concerns you would like addressed. scotthealth.net@gmail.com or comment below. I am a work in progress.
Health is much more than medicine. It is connection. It is exercise. It involves sleep. Diet. What do you need help with to reach your optimal health?
